Preserving the Beauty of Your Leather Goods
Tips for Everyday Care
- Keep it Clean: Regularly wipe your leather products with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt and dust.
- Stay Dry: If your leather item gets wet, let it dry naturally. Avoid direct heat sources like hairdryers or heaters.
- Condition Regularly: Use a quality leather conditioner every few months to keep the leather supple and prevent drying or cracking.
- For Biothane: Biothane doesn't require much to maintain it, just wash with warm water to clean.
The Importance of Leather Care
Leather, with its natural elegance and durability, is a testament to timeless beauty. However, like all things natural, it requires care.
Proper aftercare not only maintains the aesthetic appeal of your leather goods but also extends their lifespan, ensuring they accompany you on many more equestrian adventures.
Storing Your Leather Goods
Proper storage can significantly impact the longevity of your leather items. Always store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Mold and mildew are also common problems if left in a moist environment.
Addressing Stains and Scratches
Accidents happen. If your leather product gets stained, avoid using harsh chemicals. Instead, gently dab with a soft cloth and mild soap.
For scratches, a simple rub with your fingers can often warm up the leather, helping minor scratches blend into the material.
Embrace the Patina
Over time, leather develops a patina – a soft sheen that emerges due to the natural aging process. Patina also occurs naturally from oxidization in leather and no matter how well it’s kept, colors will fade.
This patina is a sign of well-loved leather, adding character and charm to your product. Embrace it, for it tells a story of shared journeys and adventures.
FAQs
How do I care for my leather product?
Remove dirt and debris with a damp cloth. Condition/Oil regularly. Store in a dry environment away from direct sunlight.
How often should I condition my leather product?
Products exposed to the elements should be cleaned and conditioned after every use to ensure longevity. Products kept indoors and for more decorative purposes can be conditioned less often.
Will the color of the leather fade over time?
Yes. Leather is a natural product and oxidizes over time. This means that the bright colors will darken slightly or fade in time.
Are your products water-resistant?
No. Veg tan leather (tooling leather) is made for manipulation that allows us to make all the designs we do. Unlike latigo and oil tan leathers, veg tan is NOT treated in oils that create the water resistant properties.
What type of leather do you use
All tack and dog collar items are made with Hermann Oak tooling leather and lined with latigo to ensure longevity and the highest quality.
How are your products different from other leather goods in the market?
Our products are all designed, tooled, dyed, and created by hand using the highest quality leathers on the market.
Can I request a custom design or modification?
Yes! If you see something you like and want to use it as inspiration for your customized order, we can absolutely work with that to create something specific to you.
